a lava flow in the foreground / une coulee de lave en premier plan
These lines are written in the evening in the warmth of our tent. The wind is blowing outside and making our tent shake. We had to put it against the wind, as there was no other space left (there are designated areas for tents surrounded by stones supposed to protect them from the wind). This will be the ultimate test not only for our tent, but also for us. But we are already showing our real strength: while some people were comfortably having dinner in the warmth of the very populated hut, we were eating our rice outside in the rain/wind.

We hesitated for a long time before starting this trek: the weather has been bad for days and the forecast was bad for the next 7 days.
But we decided to go anyway, as the afternoon was supposed to be just OK. And it was, giving us some stunning views to the surrounding hills around Landmannalaugar, with colours of red, orange, ochre, yellow and green. There were also fumaroles and hot springs in the mountain. There was still lots of snow for this time of year and was also covered by a layer of ash from Eyjafjatlajokull eruption last year. Despite the difficult weather conditions, we are enjoying it.
